Clonakilty (/ˈklɔːnæˌkɪltiː/; Irish: Cloich na Coillte, Clanna Chaoilte), is located at the head of the tidal Clonakilty Bay and is surrounded by hilly country devoted primarily to dairy farming. It is an integral part of West Cork's tourist attraction and noted for its vibrant culture and night life.

Clonakilty's position as a centre of music, both traditional and contemporary, has helped this small town to become a thriving melting pot of musicians. Clonakilty's bars host live music nights throughout the year and it is possible to find live music on most nights. Many famous musicians have found a welcome and a home here, and have contributed much to the energy and vibrancy of the town.

The town hosts several festivals every year, among these are The Clonakilty International Guitar Festival in mid-September, The Motion festival and The Waterfront Festival in August. The 2010 Waterfront Festival featured Irish acts, The Dublin Gospel Choir, Mundy, Aslan, The Heathers, Setmaker and Spanish Singer Paula Gómez and her band.

The Model Village in Clonakilty is the leading tourist destination in West Cork and an excellent way to start your tour of the region.

The village is a fully scaled handmade model of the old West Cork Railway Line with fully working trains and the towns that the railway served and so is a delightful way to whet the appetite for your visit to Clonakilty, Kinsale, Dunmanway and Bandon.

Each model is a replica of the town as it was back in the 1940’s and it’s a great way to make local history real for all ages. The indoor interpretive room tells the story of the railway towns and the people who lived and worked on the lines. The indoor soft play room and outdoor playground is a great way for children to let off steam while you put the feet up in our charming tea rooms in an original train carriage or browse our gift shop.

And Choo Choo, the road train tour of Clonakilty is a lovely way to round off a tour.

"Clonakilty is a lovely town for a visit, with an old high street bright with restaurants and bars and cafe's. The beach is a few miles out of town, as Clon is inland. The highlight for us was the Model Railway Village. Young children, in particular, will love it." - Martin
