High end holiday homes set for bumper self-catering season - Western Morning News

 

High end holiday homes are set for a bumper self-catering season, booking figures released by one of the South West’s largest providers of four and five star self-catering properties, have revealed.

Blue Chip Holidays, which has over 1,000 self catering holiday homes, revealed that the Broadchurch effect was paying off especially as Dorset bookings have shot through the roof.

The firm said it had taken record bookings with the number of holidays booked for the year up 9.5% on last January.

Its strongest area of growth has been in Dorset where bookings rates leapt 27.5% on 2014.

Cornwall also fared well with the number of holidays booked up 14% on last year, while Devon saw an uplift of 7% on last year.

Bookings for peak weeks exceeded those of last year with July up 76% on 2014.

Off-peak periods also performed strongly with demand for January up 78% on last year, while bookings for June increased by a quarter and bookings for September rose one fifth.

Allan Lambert, managing director of the Exeter-headquartered company, said: “The enduring appeal of holidaying in the South West continues to thrive.

“Combined with the positive impact of a second successive summer of sun, falling fuel prices, and a range great offers that have given customers affordable luxury, we are seeing a positive uplift in our bookings with a rise both in returning guests and new customers.

“Dorset has seen particularly strong demand, influenced in no small part by the popularity of ITV’s Broadchurch, which has cast a light on the Jurassic coast, an area of significant growth for Blue Chip Holidays.”

Mr Lambert added: “We’ve also seen a huge increase in demand for lodges from young professionals, couples and young families who are looking to escape for short breaks in woodland or lakeside locations. Bookings for our portfolio of over 100 lodges, many of which have hot tubs, have risen 123%.”

Other trends released by Blue Chip Holidays include a 17% increase in bookings from holiday makers who refuse to leave their four legged friends at home, and now actively look for high end properties where they can stay without compromising on quality.

This is seen by the business, which has over 300 pet friendly properties, as a growth market.

Mr Lambert added: “January’s results, which include a 36% increase in short-breaks booked for the first two months of the year, provide a very healthy calendar for the year ahead, which is great news for our owners and for the business.

“However, demand is likely to exceed supply in some locations, and so we’ll be actively seeking new properties across the region.

“Our aim is to get ahead of the demand curve to ensure that owners of holiday homes interested in joining Blue Chip Holidays are able to swiftly and effectively benefit from the current bookings surge, as well as the ongoing year round rise in demand that we are seeing for our high end properties.”
